"In the fall of 2007, Don and I moved to Creekside Prairie Retirement Village from an eight room, two story house with a large yard, which we had lived in for forty-eight years. We were very happy there but began to think about all the upkeep and maintenance it required. It was a big decision but one we have not regretted. We dug up some starts from some of our favorite plants and they now are thriving beside our patio. Don and our good neighbor, Cal, have a vegetable garden started and we're looking forward to fresh produce this summer. We both have enjoyed the lovely, heated, indoor swimming pool and have taken part in the walking program, as well as, using the exercise equipment in the fitness room.
Tuesday night is Game Night for the residents and anyone from the local community wanting to join in for a variety of cards, board games and word games in the Fireplace Room. Each week Bridge clubs meet here, with new members always welcome to learn how to play Bridge. The Fireplace Room also serves as an "extension of our own living room" and allows us to have large family gatherings with plenty of space for everyone. After our large family meals, our grandchildren like to play volleyball or shoot baskets in the gym or swim in the pool, while the rest of us are near by playing cards, talking or watching football on the big screen TV.
Some of the residents enjoy hitting golf balls just for practice in the large, grassy yard. Last summer we had several "come one, come all... come as you are" hot dog and marshmallow roasts at the fire pit. The residents that live here are friendly and always willing to help each other out, while at the same time, respecting the privacy and personal wishes of their neighbors.
Cissna Park is a great, small town that has almost everything one needs just blocks away. Churches of several different denominations are close-by and have made us feel welcome. One really unique opportunity Don and I both enjoy, is to walk just one block to the Cissna Park public schools where Kindergarten through twelth grade students gather. Twice a week, we listen to several first-grade students read. We're both avid readers and enjoy checking out books from the public library, which is located in the same building.
Do you want to know if I like it here? The answer is "Yes, very much!!" Come by for a visit soon."
